Made over the past two years, the drawings in these albums are meant to evoke events and landscapes, real and imaginary, produced by the geology, settlement and history of the Hudson Valley.
I like the idea of viewing paintings laterally, from left to right or right to left without too much up and down. In the past this preoccupation has resulted in paintings of lineages, historical events, or horror fiction, in paragraphs or long lines of text. With these new works, marks made with ink hold a linear narrative that suggests references without the need for words.
